Coming Back to Center - Part 1 ~
I am refocusing again.
This is something I seem to do often; lose direction, get pulled into other opportunities, drift into tangents that feel important in the moment but slowly pull me away from what I actually want.
And what I want is simple. I want to create, to write, to arrange, to record, to write my books, to research. That is it.
But life fills in the gaps quickly. Work expands, ideas multiply, other people’s needs, expectations, invitations, they all begin to take space. And before I realize it, I am no longer rooted in what I love; I am like a branch caught in the wind, moving in every direction except the one I chose. So I’m coming back - again.
There is something in the work world that reflects this, too. A piece from Harvard Business School Online explains that trying to pursue too many initiatives at once often leads to burnout, confusion, and lack of progress. The strongest outcomes come from choosing what aligns most closely with your purpose and letting other things fall away. This resonates deeply because this is not about finding my purpose again. It is about remembering it.
Rivers wander, they curve, they slow, they meet resistance, but they do not forget where they are going. Trees bend in storms, lose limbs, stand through seasons of stillness, yet their roots hold steady beneath the surface.
I think that is what I am doing. Not starting over, just returning. Returning to the work that feels like me, returning to the quiet pull of creativity, returning to the voice that does not need to be forced.
I will likely drift again. But like the river, like the trail, like the tree.
I know how to come back.
